Management of high-density pear orchards, identification
of agricultural techniques, economic evaluation and
variety transfer – Cooperative for agricultural assistance
and services
The experiment for the creation of agricultural techniques
in high-density pear orchards has been carried out in
the area of Mezzano in the Po Delta by the Cooperative
for Agricultural Assistance and Services” – C.A.S.A
of Mezzano, in cooperation with the Department for Tree
Cultivation of the Faculty of Agriculture of the University
of Bologna. The main objective of the project is to
organise pilot initiatives in fruit production and its
integration in landscape and environment. The results
are satisfactory. Ad hoc planting and growing technologies
have been identified for specific environmental characteristics.
These technologies grant an economic return for farmers,
high-quality products and a low impact on the environment.
An important effect at biological and environmental
level has been assessed through the experimental application
of technologies for the control of some insects and
the limited development of some plants to low-salinity
water, as well as the involvement of young farmers and
experts in carrying out the experiment. The results
obtained will be used to reproduce the experiment in
other agricultural areas with similar geo-morphological
characteristics.
