“Research study for the creation of a semi-intensive fish rearing activity in multi-cultivation to be applied in new fresh-water wetlands in the Po Delta”
The experiment aimed at identifying new solutions for semi-intensive fish rearing activities and has been a pilot intervention in the Southern part of the Province of Ferrara, in line with the peculiar characteristics of the region, where water cultivation represents a traditionally important activity. The results obtained have allowed the definition and the full experimentation of the functional integration between intensive rearing and the pond as multi-species habitat. This led to the introduction of fresh – water fish species that are considered negligible as food products but are important as ornamental species or for fishing sport activities and the re-population of natural habitats. The aim was to counterbalance the lack of fresh-water species caused by epidemics and economic and social problems in Eastern European Countries.
